PTA Volunteer Events Description




Book Fair PTA Sponsored - through the vendor Barnes and Nobles located off of Stevens Creek and San Tomas Expressway. The Book Fair is held each year to benefit the school and classroom libraries.  Volunteers assist parents who wish to purchase books for themselves or their child's classroom.  They also help in the book raffle.
Box Tops School Sponsored - Advertise, collect, calculate, and maintain this fundraising program for our school. Parents and students are encouraged to cut out “Box Tops” off of purchases and turn them into the office. All monies redeemed from the box tops will go back to the school.
Canned Food Drive PTA Sponsored - Our annual Millikin canned food drive collects canned and boxed non-perishable foods to donate to St. Justin’s Food Pantry. Help is needed to communicate with parents and collect food items from the classroom.
Classroom Parties PTA Sponsored - Each classroom gets up to 2 classroom parties a year that are paid for by the PTA. Parents are needed to help plan and fun activities and delicious goodies for the kids.
Computer Lab Scheduler PTA Sponsored - One person from each class (Grades K-2 only) makes a volunteer schedule for the whole school year by using the collected forms returned by parents in the class. Email reminders need to be sent to the class throughout the year.
Computer Lab Volunteers (K-2) Help assist your child’s class in computer room. Times vary by class and grade (Grades K-2 only). Please keep your scheduled times if possible and if you are not able to make your scheduled time, please make arrangements to find a substitute. No volunteers are needed for the last two weeks of school.
Dining For Dollars PTA Sponsored - Coordinates with local restaurants for a “Millikin Night Out” with a percentage of the meal cost going back to PTA. Please support our local restaurants by going out to these scheduled dining events, and remember to print out/bring the flyers when going out to eat that evening.
Family to Family PTA Sponsored - A community service event project where Millikin classes adopt a family in need and fill the family's “Wish List” items. This is a wonderful opportunity for the students to help out local families in need. Scheduled during the Thanksgiving and Holiday Season.
Field Trip Chaperone School Sponsored - Attend class field trips and be responsible for a small group of children. TB Tests are required, and the teacher chooses field trip chaperones.
Fifth Grade Pool Party PTA Sponsored - Help plan, coordinate and help out at the picnic party held at the end of the school year at the Cabana Club.
Game Night PTA Sponsored - Turn off the screens and join other Millikin parents for a night of interactive games!
Harvest Festival / Silent Auction PTA Sponsored – Our largest fundraiser of the year is held at school on a Saturday in October, from 12-3pm. Each class is responsible to have volunteers run their class carnival game booth. Volunteers are needed for set-up, clean up, snack bar, and many other booths.
Ice Cream Sales PTA Sponsored - Need reliable volunteers to help sell ice cream after school on Fridays (no sales Nov-Feb). Even volunteering one Friday afternoon a month helps!
Memory/Year Book School Sponsored - Volunteers help the coordinator with picture taking and designing page layouts to publish in the school yearbook. Also assist in selling yearbooks at the end of the year.
Morning Greeters School Sponsored - Assist in the drop-off process: opening car doors, letting out students, and closing car doors. Many volunteers are needed in the morning to ensure children are dropped off safely and prevent traffic build up. Volunteers are needed from 8:10 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. every morning. Please contact the office for more information.
Movie Night PTA sponsored - Bring a blanket and watch a family friendly movie at sunset on the school playground! To simulate a drive-in movie feeling, students can make a “boxcar” to sit in and enjoy the movie. Volunteer opportunities include set-up, clean up, and snack bar.
Pastries for Parents PTA Sponsored - Assist the coordinator in hosting refreshments, set-up and clean up for the morning social. These are for General Association (GA) meetings, where everyone iswelcome and encouraged to come!
Play Day Games PTA Sponsored - Held towards the end of the school year, Play Day is a morning of fun and games for the kids! Parents are needed to help run games, as well as help with set-up and clean up. This is an event that the kids look forward to, and many volunteers are needed to make it happen.
Project Cornerstone School Sponsored - Volunteer to become your child’s class Cornerstone volunteer and become involved in nurturing a safe and bully-free Millikin environment for students. Volunteers spend a small amount of time once a month doing a pre-planned activity and is under the guidance of the school Wellness Coordinator Yvonne Hirsch.
PTA Membership PTA Sponsored - Help with the monthlong PTA membership drive in Aug-Sep to raise awareness of the importance of the PTA. All proceeds go back to the school. Joining the PTA will allow membership voting privileges on all PTA General Association (GA) Meetings. Membership is $10.00/person and we encourage all adult family members to join the PTA.
Red Ribbon Week PTA Sponsored - Red Ribbon Week is a national program to help teach our kidsto make healthy choices, such as being drug-free. The Red Ribbon coordinator plans daily events andrecruits volunteers to assist as needed.
Reflections PTA Sponsored - A national PTA children’s art program that needs coordinating, advertising and hosting an evening reception. All grades are eligible to participate, encouraging the arts: photography, drawing, music, literature.  Please look out for Reflections posters around the campus for this year's theme.
Room Parent Coordinator (Schoolwide) PTA Sponsored - Coordinate and oversee all classroom Head and Co-Head Room parents and liaison to communicate all PTA and school information.
Room Parent and Co-Room Parent PTA Sponsored - 1 Room parent and 1 Co-Room parent per class. This position acts as the liaison between the PTA and parents at the classroom level, support their teacher as needed, and help build a welcoming atmosphere among their class families. They pass all PTA or school communication to all parents via email to inform them of PTA and/or school needs.  This is a very important position.  Rooms parents need to be aware of current PTA/School events and must reply to emails in a timely manner.
School Items Coordinator PTA Sponsored - Coordinate and sell school logo items and promote theawareness of school spirit throughout the school. All proceeds go back to the school. Items include t-shirts, sweatshirts, folders, pencils, blankets, and more.
School Marquis School Sponsored - Maintain calendar of events on the marquis board in front of the school (corner of Hobart and Forbes) throughout the year.
Science Lab Scheduler (K-3) PTA Sponsored - One person from each class (K-3 only) makes a volunteer schedule for the whole year using forms returned by parents and maintains the list throughout the year. Email reminders are needed throughout the year.
Science Lab Volunteers (K-3) This is a very important job. Help small groups of children in class with the lab work in your child’s class. Times vary by class and grade. If you are not able to work your scheduled time, please find a substitute to work your shift.
Staff Appreciation Luncheons PTA Sponsored - Combined grade levels are assigned to provide a Special Luncheon for all of the teachers to show our appreciation. Help provide food (maindish, side dish, appetizers, and dessert), assist with yard duty help, and clean up. If you are not able to help out in your grade level, a donation will be collected to purchase food.
Talent Show School Sponsored - Help the coordinator with this evening student talent show. Help advertise, find judges, and purchases prizes for the judges.
Walk-A-Thon PTA Sponsored - One of our largest fund-raising events. Volunteers are needed to run the snack bar, water stations, prize booth, set up and clean up, and counting lapcards.
Website Assistance School Sponsored - Help the Website coordinator update current information about the school on the Millikin Website. Millikin has “gone green”, so paper is being kept to a minimum.
